For any of you who haven’t been to MARIO’S
in the Ralph’s Shopping Center on 50th and Jefferson
in Indio, bordering La Quinta, please say hello to
the owners Ron and Diane. Mario’s food is good
and you get a hearty portion including garlic bread.
Prices are reasonable. You get a large pour of wines
offered by the glass but many times the reds are served
too warm. You can take your own bottle of wine for
a nominal corkage fee.
Make sure you stop at AMORÉ’S and say
hello to Rick and Brenda, the owners. It’s on
the east side of Washington going south toward La
Quinta between Avenues 47th and 48th. Brenda and Rick
are also Mountain View residents. Their food is excellent
and the piano bar is terrific and has a lot of action.
You can get a delightful appetizer or hors d’oeuvre
at the bar with a glass of wine for those times when
you’re not too hungry.
Another favorite local spot is CHAPPELLI’S in
La Quinta in the Ralph’s Shopping Center at
the corner of Washington and Callé Tampico.
Dinners include salad, your choice of entrée
and their famous bread pudding dessert. We have found
them to be consistently good. Be sure to make reservations
and if you like Whitefish, it is outstanding, but
not always on the menu – ask if they have it.
In Palm Desert, just west of Hwy. 74 one block south
of Hwy. 111 is BACKSTREET BAR & GRILL on El Paseo.
Say hello to Lavane & Charlie, the owners. This
is primarily Italian cuisine with a good selection
of wines by the glass or bottle. For dog lovers, you
may dine on a wonderful outdoor patio with your pets.
In addition, live Jazz is offered every Tuesday evening
and also on Saturdays 1-4 p.m., weather permitting.
